North Carolina Spring Fishing
After a week of 50+ degree weather it's beginning to feel like spring in North Carolina. With the beautiful weather the NL Wilson staff is looking forward to shedding some of the winter layers and enjoying an increase in fishing opportunities.
We have already noticed the local trout streams becoming more productive as an increase in water temperature brings the fish out of their winter lethargy. In addition to an increase in activity some our trout waters will soon see an increase in the number of fish, as the delayed harvest stocking program restarts for the spring season. Perhaps most exciting (for the purist in all of us) is the upcoming hatches and a return to dry fly fishing especially in the waters that support wild trout.
Another exciting fly angling prospect is the yearly spawn of local warm water species. We have already noticed the largemouth bass taking advantage of warmer water temps by moving into shallow dark bottom areas of our local ponds to seek out unwary baitfish. This early activity will be followed by the crappie spawn affording anglers crushing strikes on well-presented flies.
It's time to go outside and play...
