North Carolina Spring Fishing

After a week of 50+ degree weather it's beginning to feel like spring in North Carolina.  With the beautiful weather the NL Wilson staff is looking forward to shedding some of the winter layers and enjoying an increase in fishing opportunities.

Big Stones = Big Fish

If you mention the “Henry’s Fork” in any western fly shop you are bound to attract some attention. This month on the Henry’s is my favorite time of year to fish. The stoneflies come out in droves to be devoured by any fish wanting our equivalent of a large T-bone steak (the average stonefly looks like it could carry off a small child).

Your First Time Fishing...Add Your Story Here

The Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming, the Middle Fork of the Powder River, the Tongue River, Norwood Creek: these are the places I learned to fish with my dad. I remember some of my early attempts at spin and fly casting were comical at best. My dad would set up my spinning rig, line me up on the water, and take me through the basics. He would then work up river (away from my splashing) with his deep yellow fiberglass fly rod. I remember really enjoying watching him, his creel on his side, work across the water or along the banks.

Spring's Coming to Colorado

I went fishing with my son yesterday. It was relatively great weather here in Summit County, Colorado. Sunny with highs in the low to mid 50s in March is something to be taken advantage of after the winter we’ve had this year. We first set out to the Snake River near our house. After parking and walking down to where the river (stream) enters Dillon Reservoir we started looking for prime lies. I know the fish from the lake like to come to the inlet this time of year looking for food, but hadn’t been there this early before.

To fish or not to fish...is it really a question?

So, here it is; NL Wilson’s first official blog. NL Wilson was formed in 2003 by outdoor enthusiasts and educators who love to fly fish. We currently have four locations in the United States. They are in Breckenridge, Colorado - Jackson Hole, Wyoming – Asheville, North Carolina and Windsor, Vermont. Many of us have had an experience when out on a guided trip where the guide says, “cast over there. . . NO . . . over . . . not there . . . you missed it . . . (frustrated sigh) . . . never mind.” Sound familiar?
